Advisory Council Member Agreements – Peer Coalition
Purpose & Role
• Serve in an advisory capacity to support the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the Peer Coalition
• Offer guidance based on lived experience, professional expertise, and community knowledge
• Understand that the Advisory Council does not hold fiduciary or governing authority; final decisions rest with the Board of Directors and Executive Director
Commitment & Participation
• Commit to a term of service as outlined (for example, one or two years, with option to renew)
• Attend scheduled Advisory Council meetings (in person or virtual) and communicate in advance if unable to attend
• Review materials ahead of meetings when possible and come prepared to engage thoughtfully
• Participate in occasional working groups, listening sessions, or community events as capacity allows
Values & Culture
• Uphold peer support values including mutuality, respect, dignity, self-determination, and hope
• Honor cultural humility, lived experience leadership, and community-centered decision-making
• Engage in dialogue with curiosity, compassion, and openness, especially when perspectives differ
• Support a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and healing-centered approach in all discussions
Ethics & Integrity
• Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive or internal information shared through the Advisory Council
• Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential conflicts as they arise
• Act in alignment with the Peer Coalition’s ethics, policies, and community agreements
• Refrain from using the Advisory Council role for personal gain or endorsement without permission
Community Accountability
• Center the voices and needs of the communities most impacted by the Peer Coalition’s work
• Offer feedback that is constructive, strengths-based, and oriented toward collective impact
• Serve as an ambassador for the Peer Coalition’s mission while respecting boundaries of the role
• Commit to “calling in” rather than “calling out” when concerns or tensions arise
Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility
• Support equity-driven practices that address systemic barriers and promote belonging
• Respect accessibility needs related to disability, language, technology, and capacity
• Contribute to creating meeting spaces that are emotionally and psychologically safe
Communication & Relationships
• Communicate honestly, respectfully, and in a timely manner
• Build relationships rooted in trust, reciprocity, and shared responsibility
• Be open to feedback and reflective practice, recognizing growth as an ongoing process
Leaving the Council
• Members may step down at any time with notice to allow for thoughtful transition
• The Peer Coalition reserves the right to end an advisory role if agreements are not upheld, with transparency and care
